Using my chosen artist Willie Doherty as inspiration for my project through their use of composition, narrative, colour and technique through their own image that I, as a photographer wanted to establish in my own work.
Willie Doherty doesn’t work the concept of colour in his images to capture the concept of history and memory in his work. He uses the concept of black and white to establish meaning depth in his work to construct a bold narrative, he uses various techniques that enhance the detail of his location and uses text to by using phrase that will interrupt meaning.
I used his technique of black and white photography within my work a believe that a black and white effect will create more depth and understanding within my images.
“When you photograph people in colour, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” – Ted Grant
This quote by Grant establishes the idea how black and white photography have a strong effect when I come to create meaning even though my images don’t hold any people in them, the idea of capturing the soul of the location is established through my imagery, to establish and replicate the sense of memory and death the moors is highly known for.

Landscape photography was used for my project as I believed it will ignite the sense of memory and emotion of audience members of all ages due the story behind by images. Memory is something we hold strong too. The justification of memory is something either negative or positive that is remembered from the past and becomes part of us. I captured the concept of memory and crime through traveling to the moors and used various compositions that of the location that audiences members will recognise and recollect their memory as their way of remembering the past and recognising the crime scene and burial site of the five victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley is through the news foot of that time the crime was discovered and commented, which shocked the nation due there horrific act capturing images that will allow audiences member’s to recollect memory of news footage of crimes that accrued and that are considered to be unforgettable and to be Britain’s most shocking crimes.
Throughout my final images I used Photoshop to manipulate the atmosphere and meaning of my narrative that allowed me to create a series of high quality images and represent the concept of memory. Black and white editing was used on all my image to connote the concept of death, memory and darkness of my narrative, the filter overall allowed my images to stand out, represent the narrative, and enhance the detail of my location.
